Beyel Brothers – “A Day at the Beach” in Panama City, FL Florida’s picturesque coastlines and beaches have faced the brunt of recent hurricane seasons. To combat the damage, the Army Corps of Engineers has collaborated with specialized contractors. This collaboration introduced an extraordinary machine, known as an extractor, which sifts through rock and debris, extracting usable sand. Thousands of gallons of water and sand flow through this machine per minute, creating a separation. Just like a crawler crane, this unit usually self-propels across the beach to reach its final destination and work zone. But when the terrain doesn’t allow for that, you have to find another way. Beyel Brothers was entrusted with the monumental task of hoisting this engineering marvel over the Panama City Beach Pier so that it could be reassembled on the other side. The assembled weight of this marvel exceeded the capacity of any beach-side crane, but our 150-ton Linkbelt Rough Terrain Crane effortlessly handled the superstructure, adhering to the strict safety standards of the Army Corps. During just five days of spring break Dynamics Group Inc and Beyel Brothers Inc removed, transported, and installed 16 classroom buildings from two elementary schools to an Orange County, Florida high school. “We are glad to be able to support the continued growth of the 8th-largest school district in the nation,” said Mahendra Setaram, president of Dynamics Group Inc.
Beyel Brothers used a Demag 245-ton capacity AC 220-5 to lift the classrooms onto trucks, and a 225-ton capacity Grove GMK 5225 to lift them off the trailers onto their new locations. Both cranes used a custom rigging configuration with multiple slings and spreader bars. The 16 temporary classroom buildings were disassembled and transported in 32 loads from Avalon Elementary and Orange County Virtual School in Orlando to Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida.
Mirroring the continued population growth in central Florida, between September and March already total enrollment has increased by over 3,300 students in the Orange County Public School system. That is 10% more than the enrollment jump from the 2021-22 schoolyear to the beginning of 2022-23 when five new schools opened in Orange County. “We are happy to be able to play a part in the growth of the school system to better serve teachers, students and their families,” said Joe Beyel, president of Beyel Brothers. Dynamics Group Inc and Beyel Brothers are already scheduled to move additional classroom buildings over the summer.

Recently Hubbard Construction and Beyel Brothers, Inc. assembled and installed a new pedestrian bridge over US Highway 19 in Clearwater, Florida. “It is wonderful when we can build infrastructure to make areas safer for pedestrians and drivers,” said Mike Kanaday, VP of construction at Hubbard. The construction company’s scope of work for the project included erection of the pedestrian overpass structure as well as milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and utility improvements.
The skilled team from Hubbard Construction assembled the bridge by the side of US Highway 19, on Beyel Brothers’ high-capacity steel stools. The finished piece was 235 feet long and weighed 240,000 pounds. Beyel Brothers lifted the bridge, rotated it 180 degrees, and set it in place using a 750-ton capacity Demag AC 650 all-terrain crane.
