Marine Mechanic is in charge of performing maintenance activities and ensuring the overall reliability and safety of tugs and barges. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for successfully maintaining and operating these vessels.
Responsibilities:
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance tasks. This includes checking engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and other components for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. This could involve tasks such as engine overhauls, fuel system repairs, hull repairs, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Being prepared to respond quickly to emergency situations, such as engine failures or equipment malfunctions, to minimize downtime and ensure the safety of crew members and vessels. This may involve working in challenging conditions and under tight deadlines to resolve issues and get vessels back in service as quickly as possible.
- Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to repair or modify vessel components. This could involve repairing hull damage, fabricating new parts, or reinforcing structural components to ensure the integrity and seaworthiness of tugs and barges.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and any inspections or tests conducted ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Marine Mechanic or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of marine engines and systems.
- Familiarity with marine engine manufacturers, such as Yamaha, Mercury, or Volvo Penta, is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced marine repair environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
